Visiting the park requires scheduling an appointment in advance by calling to arrange a tour. Special "Haunted Tours," typically offered around Halloween, provide an immersive experience. Participants should be prepared for moderate walking over uneven terrain, often through tall, damp grass. A fee is required for participation. The park is situated along US Rt. 19/16, at its intersection with WV Rt. 10, north of Kegley, WV.
The eerie remnants of Lake Shawnee Amusement Park stand as a haunting reminder of its tumultuous past. Originally the site of a deadly conflict between white settlers and the Shawnee people in the late 18th century, the area later became home to the Clay family's farm, marred by the tragic Clover Bottom Massacre. In 1926, the amusement park opened to serve coal workers' families but closed in 1966 after two tragic deaths. Now, rusted Ferris wheels and swings sit among overgrown foliage, silently preserving tales of hauntings and restless spirits on the abandoned grounds, where echoes of its dark history linger.
